Job Purpose:Promotes successful education by publicizing counseling services; assessing student needs; providing students with counseling regarding admission, retention, choice of major, and commencement requirements; supporting faculty.Duties:

* Promotes counseling services by preparing printed materials, advertisements, and public relations announcements; delivering school-achievement, academic-planning, course-selection, and school-application workshops.
* Assesses student needs by conducting interviews and tests; analyzing discussions; interpreting tests; evaluating educational background and study habits; conferring with faculty; examining course withdrawals and grades; reviewing changes of major.
* Promotes successful education by obtaining feedback from faculty; examining study and work attitudes and behaviors; providing direction and counseling; conducting study-skills and school-life adjustment workshops; conferring with and advising parents; providing referrals for special services; targeting specific student population needs.
* Promotes successful careers by providing developmental guidance in areas of self-awareness; interpersonal skills, vocational interests, and educational achievement.
* Supports faculty by conducting faculty-student relationship workshops and classroom management strategies and techniques; providing background information regarding specific students; interpreting test data; recommending educational placement and strategies for students with special needs.
* Maintains student records by updating databases.
* Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing enrollment and achievement data and trends.
* Improves counseling services by conducting audits; participating in evaluations.
* Maintains school's reputation by keeping information confidential.
* Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
